Charity Care

Your Hospital Bill
After your discharge from the hospital, the billing department will bill your insurance company. Any portions of your bill not covered by your insurance company will be your responsibility. If you need a copy of your charges or have any questions regarding your bill, please contact the Business Office by calling 620-872-5811.

To Apply, Contact Scott County Hospital’s Financial Counselor

To Be Eligible You Must Meet All of the Following:

• Be an Established Resident of Scott County
Out of county residents will only be eligible if established at Scott City Clinic prior to 9-1-23

• Submit Completed Financial Assistance Application within 60 Days of Procedure/Discharge
Including submitting documents needed to verify income, all taxable and non-taxable income will be considered.

• Provide Denial Notice from Kansas Medicaid within 90 Days of Procedure/Discharge
Medicaid determinations can take up to 45 days or longer. It is recommended that you apply as soon as possible. If you fail to provide a denial notice from Medicaid within 90 days, you will NOT be eligible for Charity Care.

• Meet National Income Guidelines
Eligibility is based on Poverty Income Guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, based on family size and household income. Patients will be notified regarding eligibility.

• Make Payment Arrangements with Financial Counselor within 30 days
The patient has 30 days from the date of the first invoice issued to make financial arrangements with Scott County Hospital’s Financial Counselor. Installment payments shall not exceed 24 months without administrative approval. Monthly payments will not exceed 10% of the patient’s monthly family income, which could extend the period beyond 24 months.

• After the First Payment is Received, the Discount will be Applied if Approved
If payment arrangements are not made within 30 days, the account will be turned over to collections for the full amount billed.

• Services NOT Eligible for Charity Care
Services not eligible for Charity Care include cash services that are not covered by Private Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. Meals on Wheels, medication and supply pickups, elective services and accounts that have been turned to collection are excluded from charity care consideration.



No one will be denied emergency or lifesaving care based on his or her ability to pay or
on the basis of age, sex, race, creed, disability, sexual orientation or national origin.
